The title of Tim McGraw’s 2 Lanes of Freedom is apt. For a widely successful country music superstar with well over a decade in the business, he hasn’t had the amount of freedom that might come with a star of his stature. Two Lanes of Freedom is McGraw’s first album since parting with longtime label Curb Records – the label that signed him and released his self-titled debut album 20 years ago. Disputes and lawsuits with the label ultimately led to McGraw ending his contract with Curb. After releasing a Christmas single in 2011 on his own record label, Tim signed with Big Machine Records in 2012 and is now label-mates with Taylor Swift. This brings us to his debut release with Big Machine: 2 Lanes of Freedom.

2013 is off to a great start for British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. In addition to a a sold-out tour, a Grammy nomination and performance with Elton John, he performed his hit song “Lego House” for the first time in the States on The Today Show this morning. He even got a lego trophy from The Today Show crew in honor of his big accomplishments so far.

Three years after their last release, the Goo Goo Dolls are back with “Rebel Beat” the lead single from their upcoming spring release. Warner Bros. Records shared the new single via their Twitter page. It’s pretty much your standard adult contemporary soft rock track. It doesn’t go too far away from a sound that’s similar to Matchbox Twenty, but it suits the Dolls well.

The music video for Colbie Caillat’s new single “We Both Know” has premiered on Vevo. Vevo debuted the visual for the Gavin DeGraw collaboration on Twitter. The song it’s self comes from Safe Haven, the latest film adaptation of a Nicolas Sparks novel The clip features the two in a whimsical setting in a seat town. The clip, juxtaposed with images from the film ends with the two singers ina sweet embrace.

At the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, not only is music legend Prince performing, but he’ll receive a special honor. He is the recipient of the Billboard Icon Award, which went to Stevie Wonder last year. I for one can’t wait to see his performance – surely purple will be involved in some way. No word yet on a tribute or if it will be be led by one singer (a la Alicia Keys for Stevie Wonder in 2012).
The Billboard Music Awards will air May 19th on ABC.

Once a contestant on American Idol, Leah LaBelle is now signed to Pharell’s i am Other recod label after being discovered on YouTube from Pharell himself and Jermaine Dupri. Now comes a Pharell-produced track from the new artist. Her debut album is set for release this year. The song is an eclectic pop track that begins with a static clap drumline and an acoustic guitar as LaBelle asks “Am I your Lolita?”

With her long-awaited album Goldenheart being released today, Dawn Richard fans also have a new visual for one of the songs. The music video for “’86″ begins with Dawn in a confrontation with two women in medieval-inspired gear. The entire video is set in an autumn forest, and features a dance solo by the singer, and a dance styled fight scene. It’s a beautiful video.
