Aretha Franklin is releasing an album full of covers of her favorite diva hits and today she’s delivered the first offering, a cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.”
She slides, growls, and vocal runs through the hit single before incorporating another hit (“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”). The old love song doesn’t necessarily make sense with Adele’s kiss-off track, but I reckon people will like it regardless. It’s Aretha Franklin, after all.
Great Diva Classics is due towards the end of October. Continue reading
Last year I made a list of the 10 albums I was anticipating from 2013, but I just couldn’t narrow my list down to 10 this year. This year will be full of surprises as the music industry is already buzzing with rumors that many heavyweights could return this year with albums, although we’re still awaiting official confirmation from some.
Regardless, here are 15 albums to hope and pray for this year. Share your list with me below!
The meltdowns and excessive tweeting from both fans and artists can only mean one thing. Grammy nominations are in.
Jay Z leads the nominations this year with 9 nods, while Pharrell Williams, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar and Justin Timberlake received 7 nominations each. Miley Cyrus wasn’t nominated for anything, but Sara Bareilles surprisingly got a few nods, including Album of the Year for The Blessed Unrest. It is also worth noting that Bareilles’ “Brave” will officially face off with Katy Perry’s “Roar” in the Best Pop Solo Performance Category after months of fans accusing Perry of copying “Brave” and turning it into a huge hit. Newcomer Lorde is nominated for a few awards, too, including Record of the Year and Lana Del Rey, who was snubbed last year, snagged TWO nominations, including one for “Young & Beautiful.” Beyonce and Adele also managed to get nominations this year, as did Tamar Braxton, Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran.
So, while Justin Timberlake and Kanye West were pretty much ignored in the major categories, I’m still pretty pleased with the nominees this year.
Check out the major categories, and share your thoughts and predictions below!!
Adele is still in mommy mode, but she’s getting back to work, which means the followup to 21 could be on the way!

We all saw this one coming now didn’t we?
Adele, the queen of snatching awards, has snagged an Oscar nomination for “Skyfall” in the best original song category! After the first few months of 2012, Adele pretty much disappeared to enjoy her pregnancy and motherhood, but that hasn’t stopped her from having the top selling album of 2012, snagging ANOTHER Grammy nomination, AND getting an Oscar nom.?
The other nominees in this category are: “Before My Time” (Chasing Ice); “Everybody Needs A Best Friend” (Ted); “Pi’s Lullaby” (Life of Pi); and “Suddenly” (Les Miserables).
Adele rules once again! The UK singer’s album 21 is the biggest selling album of 2012 and was the top seller in 2011! The album sold 4.41 million copies last year helping it to sell 10 million copies total. 21 arrived at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in March of 2011 and has yet to leave the top 40.
Gotye scores the biggest selling single with “Somebody That I Used To Know” feat. Kimbra. The track was the kind digital release selling 6.80 million.
Adele still manages to trump all your faves. How is it that someone who hasn’t even toured or released an album this year manages to become AP’s Entertainer of the Year? With her song “Skyfall” for the new James Bond film of the same name released, that was enough to get her the achievement. Members and subscribers of the AP voted for Adele as the person who had the most influence on entertainment and culture for 2012. She beat out PSY and Taylor Swift. Continue reading
Adele has set another record for her hit album 21! In its 92 week of release, the album has sold over 10 million units becoming the 21st album to do so! 21 sold 28,000 copies this week bringing its sales total to 10,020,000 units. The sales set another record for the album, which first had the title of having the most non-consecutive weeks on top the Billboard 200 chart.
Congrats to Adele!
