HAIM’s Days Are Gone cut “Don’t Save Me” has always been one of my favorite offerings from the critically acclaimed album and now Years & Years has given me a reason to me to rekindle my obsession.
The BBC Music Sound of 2015 artists (MNEK got the coveted title last year and is AMAZING) covered the track in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge recently and it’s pretty awesome. Olly Alexander’s shaky vocals prove to be the perfect addition to the already emotional song.
Haim’s “My Song 5” video features a few familiar faces. The video centers around a sleezy talk show hosted by Dallas Murphy (SNL’s Vanessa Bayer) and it’s guests. Kesha seeks treatment for her cat obsession and AS$P Ferg deals with his girl having a girlfriend, while a live audience that includes Big Sean looks on. Grimes and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend also make appearances during the wacky video.
There are a few performance shots, but this is not your traditional music video in that the song serves mostly as background music for the silly talk show.
Luckily, “My Song 5” is getting some much deserved attention. Even if it took a remix to get a video.
The original song is from the sister’s debut album Days Are Gone. Continue reading
I’m not sure where my recent obsession with HAIM’s “My Song 5” came from, but it’s only going to be elevated by the fact that A$AP Ferg just dropped a remix of the Days Are Gone track.
For his part, Ferg adds a verse about being unfaithful over the grungy guitar riffs. Clearly he has no remorse for his actions or the demise of his relationship.
Luckily, the sisters’ resentful verses remain in tact, as does the hook on this new version.
If you needed a reason to revisit this 2013 gem, look no further.
If you, like me, were anywhere but England last week you missed out on days worth of good music. Singers such as Dolly Parton, Lana Del Rey and HAIM performed during Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts this year and BBC was kind enough to upload a few of the performance to YouTube for those of us that didn’t get to attend the festival in person.

There’s nothing better than a good cover. Except, maybe, two good covers.
HAIM performed a cover of Beyonce’s Ryan Tedder-penned “XO” for BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge recently. The cover doesn’t feel as magical as the original version, but it’s still a pretty solid cover!
They don’t get to have all of the cover fun, though!
Yesterday Shy Girls, aka Dan Vidmar, released a cover, too. The artist turned Brandy’s “Sittin’ Up In My Room” into a sparse production, giving the song’s innocent lyrics a creepy, ominous vibe that is only heightened by the reoccurring sound of a gun going off. It’s pretty amazing, honestly.
Listen to both covers below and share your thoughts! Continue reading
