Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo in Maroon 5’s “Animals” video

Maroon 5’s “Animals” is about a relationship that is only great during sex, but the boys put an interesting spin on things for the single’s music video.

Lead singer Adam Levine plays a butcher that stalks his real-life wife Behati Prinsloo in the creepy visuals. He stands outside her window and snaps pictures of her in the pouring rain, before entering her home to get some pictures of her sleeping. He then lays beside her and fantasizes about having sex with her.

It’s insane! (And, also, shot very well.)

A remix of the song was also released today. The sexy track gets a new verse from rapper J. Cole, who raps about his former lover’s addictive qualities. “I’m addicted, one hit won’t do I need a lot of you. Overdosing, your potion has got me floating on cloud nine. Tell me what I’m supposed to do when I run out of you,” he raps.

"Lights Please' screen cap

“Lights Please’ screen cap

J. Cole celebrated the 5 year anniversary of The Warm Up yesterday with a MTV Special, The Warm Up: 5 Years Later. Additionally, Cole released new dates for the Dollar & a Dream tour AND unveiled the music video for “Lights Please.”

Shot back in 2008, the previously unreleased video shows Cole arriving at a girl’s house before taking things to her bedroom. He tries to have deep conversations about life with her, but she’d rather have sex, so he obliges.

Before Cole premiered the video, he told Sway that the song didn’t become a radio hit but it is still a fan favorite at live shows. He’s right. I saw him earlier this year at Counterpoint Music Festival and, while his entire set was much liver than I expected, “Lights Please” definitely got the crowd super excited.

Cole’s tour will stop in London, NYC, Miami, Raleigh, Chicago and Los Angeles during the month of July and it is definitely worth the $1 admission cost. Continue reading

J. Cole and Rochelle Aytes in “She Knows” video

J.Cole is three for three with the Born Sinner videos. The rapper released visuals for “She Knows” yesterday and, just like the “Power Trip” and “Crooked Smile” visuals, the clips features a fresh perspective and amazing cinematography.

In the “She Knows” video, a young man skips school to smoke and drink with his friend. After a close run-in with a cop, the boy runs home and walks in on his married mother sleeping with J. Cole. He’s understandably shaken by the incident, which makes family dinner with his mom and father awkward later that night.

Let’s face it, end of the year lists aren’t factual. As much as we’d all like to think they are, in reality they’re just heavily weighted opinions. And they are stressful. Honestly. The only thing more stressful than asking me to name my favorite album/song of the year is asking me to name my favorite album/song of all time. People who are able to do this effortlessly should not be trusted. It is as simple as that.

Anyway, it was a struggle, but I think I was finally able to pinpoint the 15 albums that I loved the most from this year. Continue reading

Justin Timberlake’s “TKO” wasn’t the pop star’s best single from the 20/20 Experience albums, still J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Pusha T recently hopped on the Timbaland production to spit a few hot bars for the “Black Friday Remix.” Cole addresses Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse before Rocky comes in to speak on rumors and blogs and Pusha T talks about spending money on a “messy bun.” While you were fighting people over clothes in your local retail stores today, these rappers were airing it all out in the studio.

Listen to the remix below and tell me who had the best verse!! Continue reading

J. Cole in "Crooked Smile" video

J. Cole in “Crooked Smile” video

J. Cole released a powerful video for his latest single “Crooked Smile” earlier this week. Unfortunately the visuals, which criticized the war on drugs, didn’t feature the ladies of TLC. Cole made up for this by bringing Chilli and T-Boz out during his performance of the song at iHeartRadio Music Festival last night. During the performance, the ladies sang the hook and interacted with fans, while Cole rapped about self-confidence.

J. Cole in “Crooked Smile” video

J. Cole pays tribute to Aiyana Jones, the seven-year-old shot and killed during a raid in Detroit, in the video for the Born Sinner single “Crooked Smile.” Cole plays a drug dealer who is arrested in his home following a birthday party for his little sister, Leslie. Leslie is shot and killed by police during the drug raid and, in an interesting twist, is friends with one of the officer’s daughters. Cole wears a shirt with the American flag prominently displayed throughout the video. I commend Cole for making an amazing video with a strong message!

The video does not feature TLC, who sings the chorus of the song. Continue reading
