HAIM performs at Glastonbury festival

If you, like me, were anywhere but England last week you missed out on days worth of good music. Singers such as Dolly Parton, Lana Del Rey and HAIM performed during Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts this year and BBC was kind enough to upload a few of the performance to YouTube for those of us that didn’t get to attend the festival in person.

Ellie Goulding and Angel Haze recently took on James Blake’s moody Overgrown track “Life Round Here.” Goulding navigates Blake’s melodies effortlessly, while Haze brings an aggressive verse about blocking everyone out.

The ladies do a great job of providing new meaning to the amazing song, although I do prefer Blake’s vocals.

The competition in the Best New Artist category for the 56th annual Grammy Awards is so stiff that Lorde, whose debut album Pure Heroine was one of the best releases of 2013, didn’t even snag a nomination. All of the artists nominated this year have been praised for their contribution to the music industry and all of these artist have cross-over appeal. Instead of sticking to genre conventions, these newcomers made albums that told their stories in ways that everyone could enjoy.

Governors Ball

Outkast, Jack White and Vampire Weekend will headline Governors Ball in New York this year. According to Billboard, the festival announced its lineup by placing a full-page ad in the New York Times. News of Outkast headlining was first announced last week.

Janelle Monae, Disclosure, Foster the People, J. Cole, Empire of the Sun, James Blake, Phoenix, Childish Gambino, La Roux, Chance the Rapper, Run the Jewels and Skrillex are just a few of the acts set to perform.

The Governors Ball will take place June 6-8 on Randall’s Island in New York City.
