Ariana Grande made her debut on Saturday Night Live last night and she brought The Weeknd along for the ride.
For her first song, “Break Free,” Grande sported her now signature cat ears and thigh-high boots. The singer focused on singing, sitting down for the first half of the performance before joining her backup dancers for the remainder of the Zedd-produced EDM hit.
She brought out The Weekend during her second performance to perform their collaboration “Love Me Harder,” one of the standout cuts from her sophomore album My Everything.
This era’s releases and performances are definitely proving that Grande is a mainstay in pop music. Continue reading
It seems like people are definitely embracing Chris Brown a little more these days. The singer appeared on The Tonight Show last night and absolutely killed his performance.
Breezy performed chunks of his new album’s title track “X” and his hit single “Loyal.” Brown’s vocals were pretty good, but, as usual, his dancing was the draw here.
X leaked a few days ago, although it’s not scheduled to be released until Tuesday, Sept. 16.
As usual, I try not to post new songs once an album has leaked in full and I hold my review until the official release date. BUT, I will say I have been listening to “X” nonstop since the album leaked. The explosive, synth-heavy song about a on-again, off-again relationship is super addictive.
Last night while Fifth Harmony fans were camping out to see them perform on TODAY, Kiesza fans were sitting by the television watching the Canadian newcomer perform her single “Hideaway.”
The “Giant In My Heart” singer didn’t deliver her best vocals, but she did dance around the the David Letterman studio and outside in front of an open fire hydrant. Watching the singer dance on the street in front of the brick buildings as a nod to the song’s music video was definitely a treat.
The ladies of Fifth Harmony did a lot of dancing on the TODAY show this morning, but their performance involved a lot more body rolls than Kiesza’s. The X Factor girl group debuted their new single “Bo$$” live in front of screaming fans, while wearing all white, a nod to the song’s artwork and music video.
Kiesza’s Hideaway EP is in stores now.
Fifth Harmony will release their full-length LP later this year. Continue reading
I know what you’ve all been thinking this year: fun.’s Jack Antonoff has created a new band (Bleachers) and released some amazing music this year and that’s great for him, but it’s hard not to wonder if any future changes to fun.’s current lineup is looming around the corner.
The band’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon should help ease those concerns…at least for now.
fun. appeared on The Tonight Show earlier this week and debuted a new song, “Harsh Lights,” and Antonoff was right where he belonged, singing the song’s catchy refrain and playing guitar.
As far as the song goes, it’s another potential youth anthem. Frontman Nate Ruess – who I keeps busy by writing for some pretty huge pop stars when he’s not doing “fun.” stuff – isn’t singing about missing his mom in this song, but he is intoxicated, so clearly not much has changed since Some Nights.
It is still unclear when the boys will release the followup to their 2012 album, but Antonoff’s Bleachers will release their debut album Strange Desire on July 15. Continue reading
Little Mix stopped by TODAY to promote their upcoming U.S. tour dates yesterday morning. The UK girl group will embark on the North American leg of their Salute tour starting in September.
During their appearance on TODAY the four ladies performed their latest single “Salute” from their sophomore album of the same name, along with “Wings,” the lead single from their 2012 debut album DNA.
Of course, the ladies looked and sounded fierce and they performed the anthemic hits.
Are you going to see Little Mix on tour? Continue reading
Debuting new songs live can be a great way to introduce already excited fans to new material. Other times it can be a fail.
Mariah Carey debuted a new song from her forthcoming album Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse this morning on The Today Show and the performance definitely felt more like the latter.
The singer was joined by collaborator Wale on the stage during the busy performance, which featured a dancer on roller skates and Wale rapping over a backing track. At one point during the performance, the rapper deviated from the backing track and began speaking. The result was pretty hectic.
The good news is Carey uploaded a teaser of the studio version to her Instagram and it actually sounds pretty good!
Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse will be released on May 27. Continue reading
It’s only fitting that The Voice judge Usher perform his new single “Good Kisser” for the first time on the popular reality singing show.
He was sweating hard throughout the entire performance, flirting with backup dancers and delivering a solid performance as his fellow judges looked on from their red chairs.
The performance is a lot like the single’s music video, beginning with Usher dropping his infamous “U” chain in front of a giant square, made out of lights.
The singer is preparing to release his eighth studio album later this year. Continue reading
Gwen Stefani: strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business.
Let the fact that Gwen Stefani gave birth to her son on February 28 and is already back to strutting her stuff on stage sink in before we proceed…
The mother and No Doubt songstress is officially ready to take her seat and add The Voice judge to her resume and she celebrated by performing her hit single “Hollaback Girl” with her friend/collaborator Pharrell, who is also new to the reality singing competition’s judge lineup.
The two judges reunited before this performance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last week where Stefani presented Pharrell with the Innovator Award.
It’s safe to say the time off didn’t do any harm, as Stefani delivered a solid performance, even dropping it low a few times. Watching this definitely makes me sad that the singer isn’t planning to release any solo music at the moment.
Stefani replaces Christina Aguilera, who is currently pregnant with her second child, as a judge on the popular show. Continue reading
Chris Martin was on hand to make out with last night’s SNL host Andrew Garfield because Coldplay served as the musical guest for the popular show. Following their performance of the latest singles “Magic” and “A Sky Full of Stars” on Later… with Jools Holland earlier in the week, the band came to the U.S. to perform them again.
This time, the sky was literally filed with stars during the performance of “A Sky Full of Stars.”
Ghost Stories will be released on May 19 in the U.S. Continue reading
B.o.B stopped by The Today Show with Priscilla yesterday to perform his single “John Doe.” The powerful Underground Luxury track finds the two artists singing about a person who is failing at hiding their struggle with addiction.
Priscilla sounded AMAZING during this performance and Bobby Ray brought along his guitar to keep things interesting.
Even if you don’t like this song you should watch this video because B.o.B is referred to as the “pride of Decatur, Ga.” Continue reading
