What is air?
Travis Garland has always been able to make me swoon with his light falsetto, soulful vocal runs and sensual lyrics, but this cover takes all of that to new heights.
I like The Weeknd’s version, which was created for the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack, but it doesn’t have anything on this version.
According to Garland’s YouTube channel, the cover was recorded live at The Green Room in L.A.
I just want a new album. Is that too much to ask? Continue reading
Ariana Grande made her debut on Saturday Night Live last night and she brought The Weeknd along for the ride.
For her first song, “Break Free,” Grande sported her now signature cat ears and thigh-high boots. The singer focused on singing, sitting down for the first half of the performance before joining her backup dancers for the remainder of the Zedd-produced EDM hit.
She brought out The Weekend during her second performance to perform their collaboration “Love Me Harder,” one of the standout cuts from her sophomore album My Everything.
This era’s releases and performances are definitely proving that Grande is a mainstay in pop music. Continue reading
Ariana Grande teams up with The Weeknd for My Everything album cut “Love Me Harder.”
It’s hard to judge the track based on the Intagram snippet released by Grande earlier this week, but it sounds like it will be another dance track.
In the teaser clip, which shows Grande playing the song from iTunes, the “Break Free” songstress can be heard singing the song’s title repetitively. The only hint of The Weeknd is a short riff towards the end.
My Everything will be released on August 25, less than 24 hours after Grande takes the MTV VMA stage. Continue reading
One week into 2013 I posted a list of albums (seen above) that I was looking forward to. The list featured 10 albums that had the potential to be some of the best releases of the year, if they lived up to the hype. With just a few more weeks until 2013, many of the albums I anticipated haven’t even been released and others ended up being huge disappointments. Still, there were a few albums that lived up to their hype and even exceeded my expectations.
I revisit the list below! Continue reading
Sia’s contribution to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack sounds exactly like you’d expect it to, considering the singer/songwriter’s collaborators are Diplo and The Weeknd. Noisy instrumentation and a sample loops in the background as Sia and The Weeknd take turns singing uplifting lyrics on the soundtrack’s latest offering, “Elastic Heart.” “You cannot break me.
I’m still fighting for this,” Sia sings during the song, which is thematically similar to Christina Aguilera’s “We Remain.”
It’s a solid effort, but Sia and The Weeknd get lost in Diplo’s musical maze. Continue reading
2012 was a pretty good year as far as music is concerned, but 2013 looks like it’s going to be pretty promising as well!
Here are ten 2013 releases that you should look out for:
The Weeknd is releasing music left and right! The Trilogy singer sing about having sex with a girl and pretending it’s someone else in the balloon-filled video. Drake also makes an appearance and raps about strippers. Nothing out of the usual here.

The Weeknd is re-releasing his previous mixtapes as The Trilogy in a few weeks and the project will feature several new songs. One of them is “Twenty Eight,” another trippy tale of heartbreak and betrayal. It’s predictable for the young star, but I sort of think that’s what his fans like about him.
Listen to “Twenty Eight” here and share your thoughts!
The Weeknd uploaded a new song to his YouTube channel yesterday, and it’s an R&B thumper. Underneath the usual sexual lyrics ever-popular in R&B is a relaxed, bass-heavy beat that accompanies the Canadian crooner’s vocals well.
Listen to “Enemy” below! Continue reading
I should probably start off by saying that Dirty Diana has been my favorite Michael Jackson song since I was a kid (I still carry the cassette around in my car). That being said I’m probably a bit biased to any covers, BUT The Weeknd’s whisper voice actually goes along well with this song. I’m not saying I love it….but it’s not the worst thing either. Take a listen and let me know what you think!
