If I told you Usher, Nicki Minaj and Pharrell recently worked on a song together you’d expect it to be a massive hit, right? That’s what drags their latest collaboration “She Came To Give It To You” down.
The single isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s not the major song you’d expect from the “Little Freak” collaborators and one of the biggest producers in the industry, either. It’s safe.
Usher parties and performs in a hidden room club in the similarly safe music video for the bass-heavy song. Nicki Minaj eventually shows up and starts making crazy faces in front of a bunch of televisions and Pharrell lurks around, holding up the wall and nodding his head.
The stars are mostly seen in separate scenes, with the exception of a few quick shots of Minaj and Usher on television screens.
Unfortunately, we’ve seen this video concept countless times before so it likely won’t elevate the single.
Admittedly, if some less established artists had released this same single and video it probably would be received better.
These three have set the bar way higher.
The MTV VMAs wasn’t spectacular this year, but it wasn’t terrible either. It was fun, but not particularly memorable (Beyonce aside). Honestly, we all know that how well an awards show is received is directly related to acceptance speech antics and performances. This year, everyone kept their acceptance speeches short and shade-free and the performances, while good, weren’t instant classics, either.
Ariana Grande opened the show by coming out of a spaceship and performing her intergalactic Zedd-assisted hit single “Break Free” from her sophomore album My Everything, which is out today. Ironically, Grande’s kid friendly performance gave way to Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” where the singer humped the floor and recreated the video’s chair sequence in a green two piece. Minaj ran off the stage to change as Grande joined Jessie J on the stage for their major collaboration “Bang Bang” just minutes after the product placement-heavy video debuted online. The rapper made it to the stage for her verse, but she didn’t have time to zip up her dress so she just held is shut with her hands for the end of their set. Aside from Beyonce’s 15-minute-long performance, this was the performance highlight of the night. Wardrobe malfunction and all. Sam Smith, 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5, Usher and Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora all delivered solid, albeit conventional, performances, too.
Surprisingly the night’s biggest disappointment performance-wise was Taylor Swift. The good news is she didn’t twerk. The bad news is she just twisted around the stage with a bunch of men in suits to her new single “Shake It Off”. If it wasn’t for the commentary about the dancer who was bitten by a snake during Nicki Minaj’s rehearsal the day before (The
anaconda boa constrictor DID…), the performance would’ve been a total snooze. Swift, you’re a full on pop star now. It’s time to step completely outside of the box.

Chris Brown’s promo for his forthcoming album x is now back and in full swing.
The singer dropped off the video for his new single “New Flame” today. True to his and collaborator Usher’s nature, the visuals focuses a lot on the men’s dance moves. Both appear in two difference scenes, one that features a white backdrop and a pool and another that features a giant “X” on fire.
Rick Ross also appears in the video.
x will be released, after a number of setbacks, on Sept. 16. Continue reading
Ryan Seacrest revealed the lineup for this year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival moments ago and it’s a pretty good one!
This year’s festival will includes sets from Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Usher, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Paramore, Lorde and more!
The iHeartRadio Music Festival will take place in Las Vegas on Sept. 19 and 20. Tickets for both days go on sale to the public this Saturday, July 26.
The lineup comes just days after the first round of iTunes Festival performers were announced.
The most important news here, however, is that new music from Taylor Swift is likely right around the corner.

Usher’s new song is a nod (of sorts) to SOS’s Band’s “Just Be Good To me” and that’s probably why you’ll like it.
The Pharrell-produced “She Came To Give It To You” is less suggestive than Usher’s other recent releases (“Good Kisser” and “I Don’t Mind“) and it features a verse from “Pills N Potions” rapper Nicki Minaj. Usher and Minaj always make good music together. The two previously collaborated on “Lil Freak” back in 2010.
The funky bassline and background melodies are the real standouts here, though.
Usher will release his eighth studio album later this year. Disclosure recently remixed the album’s lead single “Good Kisser.” Continue reading
Disclosure is at it again! The brothers dropped off another fiery remix earlier this week just in time for you to add it to your holiday weekend playlists.
Usher’s funky cut “Good Kisser” gets sped up on top of a four on the floor beat and bouncing synths in this new version.
It’s another solid remix for the unstoppable duo. Bang, bang, bang. Continue reading
Chris Brown’s music has been in heavy rotation recently despite his recent legal woes, but hopefully he can finally release his long-delayed album X now that he’s out of jail.
We haven’t gotten any new information about the album yet, but Brown dropped a new song, “New Flame,” featuring Usher and Rick Ross shortly after performing at the BET Awards last night.
Compared to expletive-heavy songs like “Loyal,” this song is far more subdued. With a simple synth line and beat, both Brown and Usher sing about finding love in a club. A nod to Usher’s old hit? Perhaps.
It’s always good to see artists coming together so this song is definitely a good look. And it’s catchy.
Usher appeared in the video for Brown’s “Loyal” earlier this year.
Brown performed for the first time since being released from jail last night at the awards show. He sang “Loyal” with Lil Wayne and Tyga before joining August Alsina and Trey Songz (who apparently made up!) for the “I Luv This Shit” remix. Continue reading
Much like “Good Kisser,” Usher’s newest release isn’t a great song, but it’s extremely catchy.
The Dr. Luke-produced track features a minimal beat and finds Usher reassuring his love interest that being a stripper doesn’t make her a “ho.” “Get that money, money, money,” he sings repetitively before telling his lady he’s proud to call her his “bitch” because she can “twerk in a split.” Juicy J soon comes through for an equally problematic, but equally catchy verse towards the end of the song.
Usher will release his eighth studio album later this year. Continue reading
Pharrell, Usher, Drake and Lil Wayne will perform at the 2014 BET Awards on June 29.
The artists are the first performers to be announced for the annual awards show, which will be hosted by Chris Rock this year. The live show will take place in L.A. at the Nokia Theatre.
It’s only fitting that The Voice judge Usher perform his new single “Good Kisser” for the first time on the popular reality singing show.
He was sweating hard throughout the entire performance, flirting with backup dancers and delivering a solid performance as his fellow judges looked on from their red chairs.
The performance is a lot like the single’s music video, beginning with Usher dropping his infamous “U” chain in front of a giant square, made out of lights.
The singer is preparing to release his eighth studio album later this year. Continue reading
