You + Me cover Sade’s “No Ordinary Love”

When I saw “No Ordinary Love” listed as a track on You + Me’s debut album rose ave. I hoped it was a cover of Sade’s 1992 hit. And, luckily, it was.

The duo, comprised of Pink and Dallas Green (aka City and Colour), delivered a bleak cover of the song atop a piano backing for their version, which they recently performed live in Santa Monica, California.

Obviously, it has nothing on the original, but the two singers’ voices blend well together. It’s quite beautiful.

It’s enough to make me miss The Civil Wars. You + Me sound good, but the new folk duo doesn’t have the chemistry that the now defunct group had. Their connection was palpable.

Side projects are nice for many reasons. They allow fans to hear new music from their favorite artists that may not be in the same genre or sound that they’re used to. This is the case for Pink and Dallas Green’s (aka City and Colour) new side project. Under the name You + Me the duo will release their first joint album, rose ave. next week.

The album is a lot different than the massive kiss-off pop anthems we’ve grown used to from Pink, but that’s a part of it’s appeal. As much as I love Pink, her singles were beginning to get redundant. This is the perfect way to deliver a new sound and put some distance between her solo projects.

The folk-leaning album features minimal instrumentation that captures both Pink and Green’s beautiful voices and lyrics.

The album is currently streaming on iTunes leading up to it’s Oct. 14 release date.

It features a cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” so you have to listen to this project. It’s not even optional at this point.

Speaking of artists announcing new albums and taking a subtler approach sonically, Pink has announced a new album and released a new song this morning, too. But, it’s not a solo effort. She’s joined forces with Dallas Green aka City and Colour to form the duo You + Me.

We don’t know much about how the duo joined forces to create their forthcoming album, titled rose ave., but we do know the project will be released on Oct. 14. It will feature 10 new tracks, including one that is named after the group.

“You + Me” is a folkish cut that features City and Colour echoing Pink over twangy riffs and acoustic guitar chords.

“You can be flawed enough but perfect for a person. Someone who will be there when you start to fall apart. Guiding your direction when you’re riding through the dark,” the two sing during the song’s hook.

It’s sweet love song that showcases the best of what both artists have to offer.

Collaborative albums like this are always great treats for both of the artists’ fan bases because they offer music that the artists may not have released separately. Continue reading
