Billboard has named Carly Rae Jepsen the Rising Star of 2012! Winners from the past few years include Nicki Minaj, Jazmine Sullivan Lady Gaga along with Colbie Caillat who was the first honoree back in 2008. Carly will join Billboard’s Woman of the Year Katy Perry at the event held in New York City on November 30. Click on to read Carly’s reaction to being named Rising Star!
As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award. I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.
Carly has had a great ride on the charts. Her single “Good Time” with Owl City has gone platinum and hit number 3 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart and number on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her debut album This Kiss debuted on the Billboard Hot 200 chart at number 6.
It’s certainly fitting for Carly to get this honor, but it seems like star status has already been cemented!
