Mary Lambert’s “Secrets” may be one of the best anthems of the year. And in 2014, when a new anthemic pop song is released seemingly every day, that’s saying a lot.

The “Same Love” songstress is still providing theme music for the underdogs, this time from her forthcoming debut album Heart on My Sleeve.

“I don’t care if the world knows what my secrets are,” she sings, in a manner not unlike Ingrid Michaelson. The catchy staccato “so what” refrain is echoed by celebratory horns.

The singer has enlisted B.o.B for a rap verse on a new version of the single, but he’s not really needed. Still, Lambert gained notoriety after teaming up with another positive, pop-friendly rapper (Macklemore) so it’s no surprise that she’d tap B.o.B. Afterall, his earlier hits were largely thanks to pop stars Bruno Mars (“Nothin’ On You”) and Hayley Williams (“Airplanes”) of Paramore.

Michaelson’s released an anthem of sorts of her own this year, but Lambert’s single is very reminiscent of her and Sara Bareilles’ early work.

And that’s definitely a compliment.
