If you just ate skip this post and come back to it another time. Things get real in alt-J’s “Hunger of the Pine” video. I’m talking taking an arrow to the neck real.
The song’s premise is that pining can be physically excruciating in the same way as hunger, but the video doesn’t show a man holding his stomach, suffering from starvation. Instead, the story follows a character as he stumbles through the woods while arrows whirl past him, several of them hitting their target. It’s a bit gruesome. But, so is pining?
The entire time the video was playing out I kept thinking “well at least he’s surviving. I mean I totally would’ve fallen over after I got hit the first time. Good for him for persevering.”
And then I saw the ending…
