This year’s VMAs had the usual interesting moments. Kevin Hart did a decent job as host although his jokes weren’t his best. He still managed to get a lot of laughs. Notably, there was a lack of tributes to Whitney Houston and only a quick tribute to the late Beastie Boys member Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch. There weren’t as many notable moments as there have been in past years, but we have some interesting ones to note, like:

Rihanna Hugs Chris Brown

Rihanna is not only “very, very close friends” with Chris Brown by her words but her actions. MTV’s VIP Seating Cam caught the pair hugging each other during a commercial break. It’s sweet that their still friendly, considering. Note: The quality isn’t very good, but you can check out pics and video of the smooch below!

Kevin Hart’s Opening Monologue

For his opening monologue at the VMAs, Kevin Hart was all about being real about mistakes. Introduced as “the future President of the United States,” Kevin entered the audience  with a security team of little people (” I think [MTV] took it literally – I need a ‘little’ security”).  Once on stage he joked about Drake and Chris Browns club drama, Kristen Stewarts affair, and applauded Frank Ocean: “You are BRAVE”.  Proceeding to exemplify just how unpredictable he can get, Kevin closes his monologe by diving into the audience and crowd surfing.

Katy Perry Kisses One Direction at VMAs

Apparently Katy Perry has a thing for boybands now. When One Direction took the stage to accept the award for Best Pop Video, Katy Perry took it upon herself to give each band member a kiss on the cheek as they took the stage. Cute.

Drake Thanks Outcasts in Acceptance Speech

Drake made a point to acknowledge the underdogs when he won the VMA for Best Hip Hop Video:

I gotta thank everybody from Young Money, shout out to Toronto, one time! The video, it’s about being me. Being black and Jewish. I went to this house party one time, and when I showed up there, it was a bunch of kids and I ended up getting made fun of. I want to dedicate this award to any kid that’s ever had a long walk home by yourself, you know what I’m saying? This is to you man for real. We made it… B*TCH!

The b-word was unnecessary, and kind of took away from any sentimentality the speech had, but congrats to Drake.

Breaking Dawn Part II Trailer Premieres at the VMAs

Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and other crew members (minus Kristen Stewart) took the VMA stage to intoduce the world premeire of the trailer for the final installment of the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part II. Pattinson was his usual self, it seemed. He thanked the Twihards for their support of the years.
